The aim of the Reinventing Role Models project is to encourage children to discover new and alternative role models, while thinking critically about social norms and what we expect from those we look up to.
The project consists of two parts; the Youth Camp and the Exhibition. This way we’re able to combine learning and creating into work that can be shared with family, friends, and the local community.

“
A role model in the flesh provides more than inspiration; his or her very existence is confirmation of possibilities one may have every reason to doubt, saying, ‘Yes, someone like me can do this.’

WHY DO ROLE MODELS NEED REINVENTING?
All too often, it feels like children are only presented with a limited range of people to look up to: the handsome footballer, the girly pop star, the tough superhero. Our aim is expand this range as much as possible!
We don’t think it’s enough for a role model to be successful, talented or good-looking. The people who inspire us come from all walks of life, all backgrounds, genders, colours, ages and occupations. Whether they’re family members, good samaritans, revolutionaries, or something else entirely, Reinvented Role Models are:
Considerate
With tolerance, kindness, and selflessness, role models think of others and discover ways of helping those around them.
Determined
Whether they overcome adversity, subvert stereotypes, or fly in the face of expectation, role models refuse to give up.
Impactful
No matter if it means helping one person or a million, role models find their own ways of making their mark and the world a better place.
