About the Book
The initial idea for the project was partly inspired by the bestselling book “Stories for Kids Who Dare to be Different” by Ben Brooks. The book shared our aim of helping children to realise their potential by exposing them to as many different alternative role models as possible.
We are lucky enough to have had Ben Brooks participate in the pilot project and prove keen to remain involved in the future.

About us
Reinventing Role Models was created and organised by Renata Gussmann, during her time working as a project management trainee for the International Elias Canetti Society in Ruse, Bulgaria.
Renata Gussmann finished her Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Russia Studies at the University of Potsdam and her Master’s degree in Eastern European Studies at Freie Universitat Berlin. She has worked and studied throughout Russia, Belarus und Bulgaria. After working with disadvantaged children and young adults in Saint Petersburg and Berlin, she felt compelled to put together a project that would utilise new and exciting means of empowering children to think above and beyond what is expected of them.
Born in Chudschand, Tajikistan, and relocating to Germany at a young age, she has found her multicultural upbringing to be of huge benefit when communicating and forming relationships with children and adults of all backgrounds. She will continue working in the fields of cultural education and project management.
What about the future?
The Reinventing Role Models pilot project has proven that our concept works. It’s not just a meaningful learning experience for the kids and adults involved, but an enjoyable one too, in which relationships are formed, trust is built, and new ideas emerge.
We hope to continue the project, both in Bulgaria and throughout Europe. This may involve us directly or other organisations utilising our groundwork – we’re open to collaboration in any form! If you have any ideas, questions, or want to know more about getting involved, then please get in touch through the ‘CONTACT US’ page.
